In today’s world circumstances, where it seems that the future has been taken away from normal people, for me it is of the outmost importance to empower my students for them to feel that they can also shape the future as it is not just and endeavor of the few.
I teach sustainable development to American students, and for many years the trend has been of acceptance of collapse and grief. I try to get them away from this line of thinking through different teaching techniques, exposing them to different approaches, from resilience to degrowth. This is why Anna’s workshops are so valuable for the class, as her approach gives the students different perspectives towards why and how it is important to understand the future through an individual and global focus, giving them the tools they need to complete the tasks I ask for them to deliver in class. .
